The launcher was built in collaboration with the Aerospace Engineering School at the University of Rome, to study the possible transformation of the former navy flagship aircraft carrier “Galilei” into a ship capable of launching vector missiles to send satellites or other equipment on orbit.
It’s called the Simona program (Italian System of Launch into Orbit by Ship), which Is no longer a mere idea, but already an advanced study hypothesis that, following the will of the army, will be realized towards 2025.
A first test of the launcher, shown in the video below, was performed at the “Poligono di Tiro Le Macchie”, Barisciano (AQ).
