This line was designed and built for the automatic testing of the seats of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Ducato vehicle, using a Yaskawa robot with electro-pneumatic hybrid gripper.
The seats coming from the production line are mounted on pallets equipped with RFID identification systems.
The seats are moved by motorized roller conveyors.
The line is composed by 3 main stations which are called:
- OP10
- OP20
- OPJOFA
Postazione OP 10
This station tests the correct functioning of the sled for the horizontal positioning.
The seat (sourced from the production line) is firstly locked in place by mechanical pliers and then rotated by 90 degrees using a mechanical swivel.
An electromechanical system hooks the headband placed under the seat cushion and moves it to test its position range from fully retracted to fully extended. If the test fails, the seat is marked for scrap and will not perform any additional tests. The seat is then transferred to the OP20 station.

OP 20 station
In this station, a Yaskawa robot tests the correct functioning of the levers for adjusting the seat height.
The first lever adjusts the height of the front of the seat while the second one adjusts the height of the rear of the seat.
The robot, using its electro-pneumatic gripper, operates the seat levers and tests the correct lifting. Subsequently, exerting compression force and monitoring it by a load cell installed on the gripper, it pushes the seat to a fully closed position.
If the test fails, the seat is marked for scrap and will not perform any additional tests. The seat is then transferred to the OP20 station.
OPJOFA stations
These stations perform the last part of the cycle consisting in the testing of all the electrical components present on the seat. The test is conducted by attaching a special connector of the station to the connector on the seat.
